• Is the "fool" actually the victim, or the perpetrator of the prank?

April 1st is known in some parts of the world as "April Fool's Day," or "All Fool's Day," a day in which practical jokes are customarily played upon people (is the "fool" actually the victim, or the perpetrator of the prank? i.e. "It is as sport to a fool to do mischief" Proverbs 10:23 KJV). The origin of April Fool's Day is somewhat obscure; historians differ, but it was at least indirectly a part of the Middle Ages calendar change in which the start of the Roman calendar year was changed from around the spring equinox (as God's calendar always has, see Bible Calendar and Bible Months) to the dead of winter, January 1 (see Pope Gregory's Calendar). Fools of course didn't originate in the Middle Ages; they existed right from the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve foolishly choose to believe Satan's lies.
"The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God"

The Bible has much to say about what makes a fool, the foremost of which are "The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God" (Psalm 14:1 KJV) and "The wise in heart will receive Commandments: but a prating fool shall fall." (Proverbs 10:8 KJV).

    Some others:

"It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom" (Proverbs 10:23 KJV)
"He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind: and the fool shall be servant to the wise of heart" (Proverbs 11:29 KJV)

"The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise" (Proverbs 12:15 KJV)

"A fool despiseth his father's instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent." (Proverbs 15:5 KJV)

"He that begetteth a fool doeth it to his sorrow: and the father of a fool hath no joy." (Proverbs 17:21 KJV)

"A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself." (Proverbs 18:2 KJV)

"It is an honour for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling" (Proverbs 20:3 KJV)

"Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him." (Proverbs 26:4 KJV)

"As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly." (Proverbs 26:11 KJV)
